DIVERSITY, EQUITY AND INCLUSION
Training on DE&I by Tamara Makoni
We strongly recommend to follow this training on DE&I by award-wining inclusion and culture specialist, Tamara Makoni.
Diversity, equity, and inclusion involves cherishing the differences among each other while shielding people away from discrimination. It focuses on representation, fairness, and equal opportunities. As a company we want to embed DE&I into our daily operations.
Diversity is about representation. Since everyone is different, it might be difficult to define what makes someone different. So, it is hard to begin listing all the things that set us apart from one another. Unconsciously, we categorize variety according to societal constructs including gender, race, age, and sexual orientation. How successfully different groups of people their contributions, presence, and opinions are recognized and included into a setting is what inclusion is all about. Equity refers to fair treatment for all people, so that the norms, practices, and policies in place ensure identity is not predictive of opportunities or workplace outcomes.
Everybody is unique and success can result from this in various ways. Different studies have shown that diverse companies are likely to perform better. A diverse workforce brings different perspectives, which is beneficial in executing a business strategy and also helps with problem-solving. Another benefit diversity brings is an increased rate of innovation. Hiring a broad spectrum of employees means that they will have different characteristics and backgrounds, they are also more likely to have a variety of different skills, talents, and experiences
On the other hand, misunderstandings can also arise. Things can be interpreted differently because of a difference in identity. Being aware of this is crucial, whether you're a family member, friend, colleague or total stranger. Below are some suggestions for coping with diversity.

Unconscious bias
Unconscious bias is about the associations that are made between different qualities and social categories such race, gender or disability and are judgements that are made without conscious awareness. The TED-talk by Valerie Alexander is extremely interesting on how to outsmart your own unconscious bias.

SETTING PERSONAL GOALS
Setting personal goals is a good idea if you want to get closer to who you are and who you want to be.
There are many ways to set goals. If you prefer it to be more visual, a vision board can be created. Another strategy is to list a certain number of objectives on how you want to reach the goal, and only after one of them is achieved, you'll start with the next objective. You can also use a planner writing down monthly goals to have a clear overview for the upcoming year.
You can download the monthly goal planner by clicking on the "download" button below.

Personal goal setting tips:
1. Consider your passions: your goals should be meaningful to you and provide you with a sense of pride once you meet them
2. Set goals you can control: be realistic about what you can and can't be directly responsible for.
3. Imagine your future: take some time to really think about what you'd like your life to look like.

7-DAY CHALLENGE
The visuals below show you some questions you can ask yourself. These questions will help you to come closer to yourself. Who are you without certain expectations and/or pressure from the outside? The world is always quick to tell us who to be and what we should want—often setting unintended guidelines for what defines success. Sometimes these external forces may conflict with what we believe. But if you have a strong sense of self, you may be less likely to listen to what these external forces have to say.
Make it a 7-day challenge and answer one question every day.
